The condition was of the very highest standard that i’ve been fortunate to play. On holes like the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 12th, 15th and 16th you can see some but not all of the fairway and the golfer must therefore play on trust. It is an advantage to start off with three or four long holes to get people away. One of the founders was a local GP called Dr Alister MacKenzie, who would also design the course. It’s picturesque, is of high difficulty, has a world class course and is very well priced (in my opinion). However, in the bar afterwards I heard the party in front of us mention that if they could, they would just loop round 10 and 11 and I think I would echo that. I’d played Turnberry two days before and I thought that Alwoodley was in just as good if not maybe even slightly better condition (sorry Donald).
